On 29 August 2019, the Church honours the anniversary of St John the Baptist. Besides our Lord and our Lady, St John the Baptist is the only one whose birth and death are celebrated.
On this day, we remember how courageously St John stood up for the truth as he condemned Herodias’ marriage to Herod, as she was already the wife of his brother, Philip. As a result, Herodias conspired with her daughter to have St John beheaded.
As we reflect and remember St John on this day, we pray that just like St John, we too may find the courage to speak up against injustices we come across, that we may always find the courage to do what is right.
